Hayez

“THE FIVE DAYS OF MILAN”

“The Meditation” (1851), I think, is the best work of Francesco Hayez (Venezia, 10 febbraio 1791 – Milano, 12 febbraio 1882) who is famous with his political allegories. This nice drawing reveals us the most famous episodes in the Italian Revolution – “The Five Days of Milan” – March 18th and the 22nd, 1848, when the city of Milan rebelled against Austrian rule, freeing themselves from foreign occupation.

P.S. The artwork is located at the Museum of Modern Art in Verona
